Motion Tracking System

This system has been developed to realize a touchless input interface for hypermedia applications. The goal was to translate human body movements into control actions of interactive media software.

The basic algortihms are also used in scientific instruments e.g. to trace the movements of magnetotactic bacteria (check the Magnetic Measurenments Bacteriodrome) or the counting of yeast cells.

Similar to the human eye the system operates on a sequence of images in time. This film can be recorded in visible or infrared spectrum. The analysis of the single pictures is done in real-time (latency times < 10 ms). The field of view is not limited to one camera so more than one input device can be used. To improve the processing speed for larger sceneries it is possible to connect computers over a network.
